Q + A
Where is Hluboka nad Vltavou?
Hlubova nad Vltavou is positioned in the south of Czech Republic, about 2 hours drive by car from the capital of Prague.
Where do we fly to?
The nearest international airport to Hluboka is in Prague. Prague is an amazing little city with beautiful historical landmarks. Prague is full of lovely cafes and restaurants with delicious food, beer and wine culture. If you haven't been to Prague before, we encourage you to spend a few days in this city to get over jet lag (Czech Republic is 7 hours behind Perth, Western Australia time) and to enjoy what Prague has to offer :-) For tips on what to do in Prague, please see Things to Do in the main menu bar.
What's the best airline to get us to Prague?
There are a number of options. If you are flying straight to Prague from Perth, Emirates and Qatar are usually the best, they each have only 1 stop in Dubai or Doha.
If you are considering visiting more places in Europe, Qantas have direct flights from Perth to London, Rome and Paris. From the listed cities and other European cities, there are regular daily flights directly to Prague and vice versa. These flights are usually only 2 hours or less and there are many airlines to choose from.
How to get to Hluboka?
Hiring a car is a great option as it lets you explore more of the beautiful Czech Republic at your own pace. Driving in the Czech Republic is reasonably easy just remember to keep right when you are doing 130km/h on the freeway. ;-)
Parking is available at Hotel Stekl if required.
There is also a train that travels from Prague to Ceske Budejovice which is a city close by Hluboka. It is then a short drive to Hluboka.
We are considering organising a return shuttle service from Ceske Budejovice or even from Prague if guests are interested. Please let us know in your RSVP.
There are other cities close by in Austria if you were to consider travelling from there.
Are children welcome to come?
Definitely! Our children will also be attending both the ceremony and reception and we are making it all kids friendly. No lengthy speeches, spacious outdoor and indoor premises for use, kids area and open dance floor for plenty of kids and adults entertainment. Hotel Stekl also accommodates families with children and you can have up to 2 extra beds in some rooms.
What will the weather be like?
July is usually Europe's hottest month, the middle of summer. The temperature can range anywhere from 18-30ish degrees. Czech Republic does not get windy in summer like Perth does, so 30 degrees can feel very hot. However, there can be colder days and rain in July too.
What's the currency and language?
The currency in the Czech Republic is the Czech Crown (Ceska Koruna). 1 Australian dollar is equal around 15 Czech Crowns. While lots of places take card, it is a good idea to have some cash on you just in case (for some parking at tourists locations (out of Prague) or toilets). Some places prefer cash too.
People speak Czech but most people know English and are fairly proficient, especially in Prague and other tourist locations. If you feel like you are hearing a lot of F*** Yo around you, rest assured people are not just swearing all the time. "Fakt jo" means "oh really" in the Czech language and Czechs use it a lot ;-)
Gifts and Wishing Well
Your presence at our wedding is the best gift we could receive. However, if you would like to give us a present any financial contribution to our honeymoon would be greatly appreciated.
